I grew up in southern CA. We called the game hopscotch & the marker a lagger. As we took turns, they would stay in the various squares and you would have to skip over those squares.

I wish I could remember the one from my childhood. I wrote it down and put it in my underwear drawer so I wouldn’t lose it when I was about 8… and I lost it. The spades go… Eeny meenie popsiceenie Oh Aw, ugaleeny Achy, Cachy, Liberache Say the magic words: A peach, a plum, a half a stick of chewing gum, and if you want the other half, this is what you say: (But then I forget!!! I think there’s something about a trash can lid, maybe. Anyone know that version?)

Our chant went In, Out, Side – by – Side, Step, In, Out. We then did “diamonds”. The elastics were crossed, the jumper then stood in the diamond in the middle, and then had to jump out of that and do the same steps (Step, when you stepped on the elastics, was hard because they were moving). I think we did ankles, calves, knees, thighs, waist.
