Our chant went In, Out, Side – by – Side, Step, In, Out. We then did “diamonds”. The elastics were crossed, the jumper then stood in the diamond in the middle, and then had to jump out of that and do the same steps (Step, when you stepped on the elastics, was hard because they were moving). I think we did ankles, calves, knees, thighs, waist.
THANKS FOR THE INF ON CHINESE JUMPROPE. IN CHICAGO WE DID SING THE SONG JUMP IN JUMP OUT JUMP SIDE TO SIDE JUMP ON JUMP IN JUMP OUT. I REMEMDER PLAYING THIS IN THE 80’S IT’S SO MUCH FUN AND WILL TEACH MY GIRLS HOW TO PLAY CHINESE JUMPROPE.
I grew up in Chicago and I remember that we always played Double Dutch and Chinese Jumprope with rhyming songs. I wish I remembered all of them because we would finish one rhyme and go right into singig another one as long as the jumper hadn’t missed yet. There had to be at lease 7 or 8 rhymes that we knew by heart. With Chinese Jumprope we would sing: Jump in jump out jump side to side jump on jump in jump out.
Can you put me in contact with somebody who can teach double dutch. I can be reached at my previously posted email site or by phone (917)609-3917.a
