More Help please! I’m trying to find a children’s book that has character called riki tiki timbo (sp?). Much of the book revoloves around the name of this character that, if I remember right goes on and on a bit. Not exactly a song, I know, but I’m hoping someone will know the book I mean and can give me a title and an author. thanks!

I remember it as… Down town baby. Down by the roller coaster. Sweet sweet baby. Don’t let ‘ya momma know. Shimmee shimmee cocoa ba. Shimme shimme p-ie. Oooh cheechie wawa tabisco. I’ve got another tabisco. Just like cherry pie tabisco. The “clapping rhythm” of this was one hand face down, other hand face up, while your partner did the opposite. Therefore, you were clapping with your partner but hands were vertical, not horizontal. Also, with the word tabisco you would take your right hand and make a motion like an up calling an out, thumb pointed over your shoulder and then down. I have NO idea why it was done this way, or what any of the words mean. However, it was something that definitely occupied time during recess for many years.

HELP! does anyone remember THE MERRY MAILMAN and the song he sang? I only remember this: I am the merry mailman, ring, ring your bell will ring and I can bring a special thing, and this is what I’ll bring: WHO CAN FILL IN THE REST… Thanks.. Suzie Kusnetz

I seem to remmember “All The Girls In France” slightly differedntly: All the girls in France Do the Hula-Hula Dance And the way they shake is enough to kill a snake when the snake is dead they put bullets in its head with a final sigh they put diamonds in its eyes when they pull them out then the snake begins to shout! Actually, I’ve been looking for the ‘definative’ version of this song for some time. If anyone knows any other versions please let me know. -JoeK. JBKluge [at] iname [dot] com

Here are a couple I didn’t see above: Glory, Glory Hallaleua (sp?), Teacher hit me with a ruler shot her through the floor with a loaded 44 and she don’t teach no more! My eyes have seen the glory of the burnin’ of the school we have tortured all the teachers we have broken all the rules … Look at [insert dorky kid’s name here] doin’ it, doin’ it pickin his nose and chewin’ it, chewin’ it Thinks it’s candy but it’s not It’s a snot with a cherry on top dumb joke: Ask “What are you eating under there?” When the kid asks, “Under where?” You say, “Eeeww, you’re eating underwear!!”

Here’s one I picked up at summer camp: In Derby Town in Derby Town The streets are made of glass Once you turn the corner You’ll fall right on your {Chorus} Hocus pocus, crickety-crocus, hum dum diddly-eye, Once you’re been to Derby Town You’ll feel the same as I. In Derby Town in Derby Town Two men were digging a ditch One’s the son of a lawyer The other’s the son of a {Chorus} In Derby Town in Derby Town Two men were digging a well One went to heaven The other went to {Chorus} I especially like the second verse!

In response to EMB, here’s what I remember of the peanut song. Found a peanut, found a peanut, found a peanut last night. Last night I found a peanut, found a peanut last night. Cracked it open, cracked it open, cracked it open last night…. It was rotten…. Ate it anyway…. Had a stomachache…. Called the doctor… Died anyway… Went to heaven…. That’s all the verses I can remember. We used to sing it on the bus, going to camp, along with the bumblebee song. (I found a little baby bumblebee, won’t my mommy be so proud of me…)

Here’s one I remember as a kid, that my kids just learned at school. It’s amazing how these things keep going. This was meant to be said by two people, the first one asked the questions, the second one gave the answers. WHAT’S YOUR NAME? Mary Jane. WHERE DO YOU LIVE? Down the drain. WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER? Cucumber. WHAT DO YOU EAT? Pig’s feet. WHAT DO YOU DRINK? Pink ink. WHAT DO YOU WEAR? George Washington’s underwear! I don’t remember who’s underwear we said, but I don’t think it was George Washington. That’s the way my kids say it though.

I remember a negative verse to little play mate. something like “oh little devil, come out and play with me. ——I’ll scratch your eyes out, I’ll— and we’ll be enemies forevermore, 1,2,3,4” How’s that for disturbing. I can’t remember it really, can anyone else? From Brooklyn, NY
