How about everybody holds…

How about everybody holds their hands behind their back and then you start singing “Where is thumb-kin? Where is thumb-kin?” And first you bring out your right hand with thumb up “Here I am” And the left hand with thumb up “Here I am” Shake the right thumb “How are you today sir?” Shake the left thumb “Very well, I thank you” Move right thumb behind your back “Run away” Move left thumb behind your back “Run away” And you would repeat it for every finger on your hand. We used to play it in kindergarden in the Bronx

K. Traxler, I found this while looking for the steps to a game we called “Africa.” My daughter is in fifth grade, and I’ve been racking my brain! Thanks for jogging my memory on the steps..I also remember leaning on one arm against the wall and tossing the ball under and around it and catching it; bouncing it ‘overhand’ clapping and then catching it without it bouncing; standing with back to the wall and bouncing it between the legs and turning to catch it without moving your feet. Goodness knows how many varieties there are! I grew up in NH :o) thanks again!

When I was in Girl Scouts back in the 1960s we used to play a game that had to do with a story of an old fashioned girl who packed a suitcase to go to a party. All the items in the suitcase were named repeatedly throughout the story. Upon her return her suitcase accidentally got mixed up with a young man’s who was on the train and she returned home and opened her suitcase only to find the contents all wrong. The point of the game was to be able to name all the items that had been in the suitcase. Does anyone have that story?

We used to play a game with sticks or rulers laid out like a ladder oalong the ground. You had to run along it jumping over all the sticks. As the game progressed the sticks were spread out further so that jumping them became more challenging. By the end you had to use a lot of speed, strength and timing to get through without knocking any sticks. Did anyone else play this and can thery remember more detail about how it worked. I remember playing this lots when I was 12 or 14 with friends and having lots of fun. It was great exercise too.
