I was showing that A my name is Alice to my kids and my son was intrigued. He was trying to swing his leg over, but his bounce just wasn’t high enough and well the ball just couldn’t wait for him.

Wow. Fishnet stockings! I had a pair in white and a pair in black. They were the rage! And who could forget bell bottom pants, worn with platform shoes? How high were your platforms?

Ballet lessons …. Every Saturday morning, my mother would take me to the “ballet studio” where we’d darn our little pink ballet outfits, and try our best to dance to the drone of the ballet teachers voice … “and one, and two, and pirouet”…I never could stand on my toes … After the lesson was over, a group of us would go to the nearest White Castle … ; )

Deprived of real fishnet stockings! I wanted fishnet stockings so bad in the 60’s. So when my mother finally bought me a pair but they were not real fishnets! I don’t know where she found these but they were white with some type of opaque material over the fishnets! My mother had a knack for finding stuff that just wasn’t quite cool! The same thing happened with bell bottoms. When my mother bought me a pair they had big orange flowers on them and were horrible! I tried to dye them black but those big orange flowers came thru the dye!

Being rather uncoordinated, Chinese jumprope was just my cup of tea! We did the colored-rubberbands knotted together thing and went through a series of “moves,” always in sets of ten. But despite my inherent clumsiness, I still loved regular jumprope because I loved the chanting– “Keep the kettle boiling, have to be on time” with the continuous flow of girls through the turning rope… “Ice cream soda with a cherry on top/What’s the first initial of your sweetheart/Is it A, B, C….” Sigh…. no wonder I was skinny then…..

Just reading “Oh you can’t go to heaven”…brought back so many memories of my camp days. What happy days they were!
