I remember going to the World’s Fair Ice skating rink (after the fair closed)with my girlfriend. Sometimes we’d meet guys there. Hand in hand and around and around we’d go. We’d start out with layers of clothes, and one by one they’d come off. A great aerobic workout. We had our own white high top ice skates, complete with pom poms and bells.

I taught my girl scout troop to do A my name is–first without the ball to get the rhythm-then practiced bouncing the ball–it took thm 6 months to learn to control the ball well enough and they were 2nd graders–that was a skill we learned by kindergarten–

Most definitely! I spent many hours galloping around our neighborhood (Bell’s Corner in NE Philly) on an imaginary horse. Asked the kids at camp to call me Bobbie. Loved baseball– biggest insult from Daddy was to be told you pitched like a girl. Did the baseball card thing– including attaching them to the spokes of my bike for a motocycle sound. I’m still not very “girlie–” always the first to volunteer to play any kind of baseball game at the kids’ school or from work or at family b-b-qs.

And how about flipsies for one– you know, you hold all the jacks in the palms of your hands cupped together, flip the jacks in the air so they land on your hands touching right-side-up (is that the right way to put it?!), and then you flip the jacks back into your cupped palms? It sure saved picking up the jacks one-by-one! Favorite place to place forever will be the porch of the bunks at our day camp!

Any Brooklyn girls recall the game- “Hello, hello, hello Sir?” (meet me at the grocer, etc) This was played with one of your mom’s stockings and a spaldeen inside of it. You lifted your leg next to the wall and hit the wall with the stocking & ball, singing the rhyme.

My best friend, Ann Hoffman lived on Longfellow/Westchester Avenues and I lived on Westchester/Bryant Aves. We met in kindergarten, PS 75, and have remained close friends up to this day. When we were in our first two years of James Monroe HS, I moved to Flushing and 6 months later, so did she. We have gone through growing up in the Bronx, to our marriages in Flushing, with the trials and tribulations of raising children, and divorce. She resides in Florida now, and I in Penna. We are still in touch, still laugh and cry about our growing years.
