I was one of the guys playing hockey on the local ponds. I look back on those days with much fondness! Actually my toes used to be FREEZING when I got home. I didn’t enjoy that part of it too much. They’ve since filled the ponds and built houses on top of them.
There was a small pond next to the junior high school. After school let out, whether we were in elementary or in junior high, we’d grab our ice-skates (with pom-poms!), out of our lockers and ice-skate on the pond. The boys would be playing hockey at one end and we girls would be going around in a circle, dodging the hockey pucks!
I remember going to the World’s Fair Ice skating rink (after the fair closed)with my girlfriend. Sometimes we’d meet guys there. Hand in hand and around and around we’d go. We’d start out with layers of clothes, and one by one they’d come off. A great aerobic workout. We had our own white high top ice skates, complete with pom poms and bells.
