Does anyone remeber the rules to Chinese Jump Rope? I would love to teach my daugter who could pass it on to a whole new generation of kids. All I remember is 2 people hold the rope around their ankles and one person jumps in and out. I think the rope is moved up as the jumber becomes proficient.

I have occasionally found the “real” old-fashioned metal jacks at Walmart. I have also just ordered 5 dozen of them from www.oriental.com for a Girl Scout event I am conducting on “Games of Yesteryear.” One really needs the metal jacks as the ones made from plastic do not have the right “weight” to them and “skitter.” I was hoping to find a website giving the old rhymes to the game. I used to play it, but don’t remember the rhymes. Any help?

Hi! I’ll be honest and say I can’t double dutch at all. But I would love to learn how! I teach 5th graders and the girls and I have been trying to teach each other how. We can turn the ropes and jump in…and that’s where it stops. Does anyone know where to find how to keep going or have any pointers? Thanks a bunch.

Didn’t any of you girls have a Betsy Wetsy? I had an ancient one, handed down from some cousin or other, and she was my first real doll. She had a red dress, I remember. When I was 7 I got a “walking doll” that was my pride and joy for several years–she was about 2 feet tall, with dark curly hair that was actually rooted into her head, and when you held her arms, you could make her “walk” with a sort of jerky rhythm. I loved her madly. When I was about 10 I got a small doll in a nurse’s outfit that was very much like a Barbie, but it pre-dated Barbie by a year or two. I think this doll was called Vicki. I loved her too!
