To Lisa and those who were interested in the double dutch game of D-I-S-H When you landed on D the endturner would have to turn the rope reversed or inside out so to speak and it was called “Double Orange”, or atleast that’s what we called it in the Bronx

After getting together after 25 yrs., the 3 of us girls grew up in Canarsie, Brooklyn. We searched for jacks, and began playing one day. Trying desperately to remember the different rules, esp. “Fancies.” We even put our hair in pigtails to try to recapture the “olden days.” We remembered:5 fancies. Squeeze the lemon, the bride and groom, around the world, jack be nimble, and lick the lollie. When we were kids we would play mostly on hard surfaced floors where ever and whenever we could. WE WERE OBSESSED! Does anyone know of books or sites to find more fancies? We are planning on playing more often now.

Howdy. I teach kids fitness classes as well as adults. What I have found is that adults love the kids classes more than the kids do!! I use hoola hoops, moon shoes and am thinking of incorporating hippity hops and pogo sticks. I also use agility ladders and use bands as a form of “chinese jump ropes” remember them? Thanks for the tip on how to make my own hoola hoops…heading for the hardware store tomorrow…do you put beads or anything in them? ellen (43 and still playing)

Betsy McCall would come once a week with two brand new outfits in McCall womens magazine. I remember just waiting for mom to finish reading so I could cut out that doll I had a whole paper grocery bag just full of betsy and her outfits
