I’m not sure of the proper spelling, but the part I remember goes like this: Two people stand facing each other, holding hands (one person has arms crossed so that an “X” is formed) and the song begins ( you also pull left, right, etc making a crisscrossing motion with joined hands): Here we go zoolio, zoolio, zoolio Here we go zoolio all night long. (release hands and start going backwards) Take a step back Sally, Sally, Sally Walk into the alley, alley, alley. I went to the country, and what’d I see? I saw a great big man tryin’ to “hypotize” me. I go way back (put hands on waist & lean back) Got a hump in my back (lean forward w/hands in small of back) Do the crab walk, do the crab walk (players “strut” towards each other, still in humped position, and trade places) The last part is what has me stumped…does anybody remember this at all? Here’s more rhyme to tune of ‘Miss Suzy’ verses. I beleive this is the full version: Miss Suzy had a steamboat, the steamboat had a bell, Miss Suzy went to heaven, the steamboat went to hell-o operator, give me number nine, and if you disconnect me, I’ll kick your little behind the ‘frigerator, there was a piece of glass, Miss Suzy sat upon it, and cut her little ask me no more questions, I’ll tell you no more lies, Miss Suzy had a boyfriend, zipping up his flies are in the kitchen bees are in the park the boys and girls are kissing in the D-A-R-K, D-A-R-K, dark!

Here’s a different version on D-I-S-H. I was born in chicago, I’m 40 now, living in Denver. Wish I be apart of the Double Dutch Divas’in New York, they’ve got it going on! We sang,”D-i-s-h, D-i-s-h, “D” is for double dutch, “I” is for irish, “S” is for single, and “H” is for hop. Which ever on you landed on is how you jumped next. If you stopped on “D” or double dutch, you jumped double dutch to whatever rhyme you wanted. “I” or Irish you jumped to whatever rhyme you wanted, but Irish was turned like double dutch, except you turned the rope under handed. “S” was just plain single which you turned with a single rope, and did red hot peas or something. “H” or Hop, you jumped double dutch, and you jumped high on both feet, or we also called them pop ups. Have fun.

First of all I searched forever for Tikki Tikki Tembo for my children and finally found it. I found some Chinese jacks from the Imperial Toy Company in a grocery store seasonal toy aisle. They aren’t as nice as the ones I still have from the 80’s (some of them are sticks instead of circles). The colors are kind of cool though – each one is a color swirled with a white stripe.
