I remeber playing a SPALDEEN…
I remeber playing a SPALDEEN GAME in the 60’s. We called it “A my name is” How is worked was that you would bounce the ball to “A my name is alice and my husband’s name is Al, we come from Alabama and we sell apples.”. Each time an “A” word was mentioned you had to cross your leg over the ball while bouncing it. You would continue with the whole alphabet. You would either miss crossing over the ball for one of the words, couldn’t figure out a name beginning with the letter, or miss the ball completely.

I learned the rhythm part…
I learned the rhythm part of that game from the “Zoom” television show (shows you how old I am.) You maintain a rhythm by hitting both your thighs at the same time with both your hands, then clapping once, then snapping with first your left hand then your right. So there’s 4 parts to the rhythm. While maintaining the rhythm, you say: hands up and 85 we’re gonna get the names of (pick a subject, like “girls) no repeats no hesitation no obligation so let’s go to the show ready or not here we go starting with… then each person has to say a girl’s name starting with letters of the alphabet. (like Allison, then Betty, then Carla, etc.) Until someone misses the beat or can’t come up with a name. The answers fall on the thigh clap and the next person has to say a name on the next thigh clap.
my brother learned this one…
my brother learned this one at camp. I guess it’s not really a handclapping rhyme, more like a campfire song. the first person sings a verse and the second person repeats it exactly. there was a man named Nathan Stone he had a goat that he called his own one day this goat got to feelin fine ate three red shirts right off the line when Nathan saw what the goat had done he told that goat that his time had come so he took him on down to the railroad tracks and tied him there so he’d never come back then the train came along and the whistle blew that poor old goat knew his time was through (sorry, i can’t remember how it ends. i know he “took 3 shrieks in mortal pain”)
