Yes. Chinese Jumprope was done with all of those rubber bands that you linked together to form a chain. I AM truly proud to say that I was able to do that well. And we have found a great use for those stretchy chains, today: We suspend a short one from our bedroom doorknob to the door knob of an adjacent hall closet. It allows our cats to go in and out of our room, during the summer, without letting out too much of the cooled air. And nobody’s tail has been caught yet. And our cats aren’t even Chinese!

I too was somewhat uncordinated at double dutch. I could do it, but never as a regular thing – it was hit and miss. now regular jumprope was different, as was chinese jump rope. (recently bouthg one for my niece, made out of elastic rope. not like the rubber band ones we used. Oh last post, wanted to know what it was called when you were turning the rope. Are you talking about “ender”. does anfyone remember when you played teams and fhad someone who wasn’t good jumping and they had to be “steady ender”.

does anyone remember chinese jump rope, where you had to make the jump rope out of rubber bands & there was a girl on each end with the rubberbands around their ankles?

I loved to jump rope in the “Double Dutch” style! However, you had to have two girlfriends that were both coordinated enough to turn the ropes right. What did they call it when you were off in turning the rope–does anyone remember? Yes, double dutch kept me in great shape. Although I was not a very good athlete, I was the BEST at double dutch. I loved timing it just right and jumping at just the right height to make it to the end of a chant. Now I also remember how it stung on your bare legs if you messed up. Didn’t you just have one long rope and one ‘turner’ wrapped the rope around her waist? I forget. Every time I see girls playing this nowadays I secretly wish I could jump in. They would say “Wow, that old lady is really goooood!!!!” Yes, in my mind I can still hear those chants and the slap, slap, slap, slap of the rope and it sounds like heaven. Any challengers?

Does anyone remember wearing those plastic high heels, with the elastic straps? I used to buy mine at Wainwright, in Fushing Queens. You can still find some today in pakages of halloween costumes for girls. ; )
