I’m helping with a research project that is exploring leisure and pasttimes (and escapism) during the Great Depression. Any memories you might have or heard from parents or grandparents would be appreciated. I know my mother talked about paper dolls, jacks, and hopscotch because they cost little or no money. Any memories you would like to share?

This is one of those never-ending…
This is one of those never-ending repeat-every-line songs I learned in Brownies that always made us giggle: The cutest boy I ever saw Was drinking cider Dear through a straw Repeat I asked him if He’d show me how to sip some cider dear through a straw Repeat He said of course he’d show me how to sip some cider dear through a staw Repeat First cheek to cheek then jaw to jaw we’d sip some cider dear through a straw Repeat But now and then that straw would slip and we’d sip cider dear lip to lip Repeat That’s how I got my mother-in-law and 49 kids to call me Ma Repeat The moral of this little joke is don’t sip cider JUST SIP COKE!

Also, what are you doing posting messages on a Sat. night?? You should be out partying!! What would the yentas at Parkside say if they knew you were home instead of out dancing with Dad.

We lived on Arnow & Olinville Ave in the Parkside Project for 27 years. It was 7th heaven on the 7th floor, after moving from the Quonset homes on Sound View Ave. & Bruckner Blvd. Our two boys played stick ball & all those games. Now they’re playing with their grandchildren. After my youngest, (daughter),got married we moved to Las Vegas. We’d love to hear from some of our old neighbors. Still love the Bronx. Looking into all the web sites I can find about “da Bronx”
