At my elementary school,…
At my elementary school, Jessie Beck, numerous classmates and friends of mine and I played handball. We’d choose a wall that wasn’t being played on and just start the game. The moves had wierd names like treetop; waterfall; black magic; baby(ies); beamer; white magic; black magic; wizard; around the world; rainbow; and, of course, butt crack. (Butt cracks were when the ball would hit the crack where the wall met the floor). Butt cracks usually made babies, little bounces, that usually took you out of the game almost atomatically. But that’s if you couldn’t get to the ball fast enough. It was so much fun to play that I’ve passed the game onto other people who don’t know how to play the game. Until now.

Hey! Just found the site! We called it “BUCK-BUCK” in Northeast Philadelphia. It was a game the “big kids” played–all boys, if I remember correctly. I was always asking to play, and one day they relented and let me be the PILLOW! I was thrilled! I had my back up against the wall of our church, and as the first boy came flying up at me yelling “Buck Buck Number 1!” my head went crashing back into the stone wall. Just about passing out, but not wanting to be a baby, I tried to stay in the game. The game stopped though–the boys all afraid of getting in trouble for hurting me. And me being afraid they’d never let me play again! This was in the mid to late 60s. I’d go back in a flash if I could!

Hi. We called this “Stone School” here in Philadelphia. Usually played out front of my house because we had alot of steps and the best shade trees. Great game on a hot day when no one wanted to run around. Boys and girls played this game. Thanks for the memory! Haven’t seen it played since the late 60s!

That sounds like a fun one! I’ve never heard of anything like that one. I need help remembering the layout of one. It was made up of 10 squares – like an enclosed tic-tac-toe board with an extra square on the top right hand side. The squares were numbered 10-20 and so on through 100. I remember that 10 was the center square and 20 was top left, with 100 as the extra square. Can anyone help me with this – i’d like to teach it to my daughter!!
