Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on February 19, 2004 by Streetplay DiscussionsOctober 18, 2014

I remember the 60’s back in the claremont project in the bronx every kid had a pocket bulge(spalding). we climb on old factory rooftops or the freight tracks and find balls that some seemed to be as old as fifty yrs. being poor I remember taking them home and boilng them in hot water to try to return a bounce to them. It worked but nothing like a spankin new spalding.

Hi Jordan, Please…

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on February 15, 2004 by Streetplay DiscussionsFebruary 15, 2004

Hi Jordan, Please go to http://www.streetplay.com/rulesheets/skully/ and print out our skully rulesheet–it has the suggested dimensions for a “regulation” skully board. The variety of ways you can draw a board is amazing. You can use paint, chalk, or even electrical tape on a tile floor–a favorite of ours when setting up a board that needs to be easily removed later. -Hugh McNally

I grew up playing in St….

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on February 10, 2004 by Streetplay DiscussionsMay 9, 2019

I grew up playing in St. Mary’s Park on St. Ann’s Avenue. There was a high hill right at the front of the park. The lucky ones got to be the Indians who ran down the hill and attacked the “settlers” at the bottom. Nobody wanted to be a settler. Everybody wanted to run. They used to show movies from a truck at the back of the park in the summertime. People would bring out their Sunday papers and sit on them watching the movies. Can’t remember what the movies were. We were too busy running around. During the summer there was aman who used to bring around a pony and children whose parents could afford it would have their pictures taken on the pony. I never had my picture taken but that’s okay. My uncle Jimmy had a camera and he used to take our pictures up on the roof. I think his camera needed a lot of sunlight. All our pictures show us squinting at the camera and trying to smile. Wow, how I am going on. Anyone remember St. Mary’s Park?

My mother cleaned out her…

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on February 4, 2004 by Streetplay DiscussionsNovember 14, 2014

My mother cleaned out her storage and gave me a box of what I remember to be “Chinese Jacks”. They are the little plastic rings that are snapped together around one ring right?!! My daughter made a belt and brought it over to me. I saw them and about fell over. I remember being so obsessed with these things and we used to play a game resembling jacks. I would love to find out more and teach my 5 year old daughter and maybe it would be the big craze at school again this year!
