someone maybe can answer this question about the infamous marble types. Ofcourse we all have called each varity of marbles a number of names. For starters perhaps, my school chums and I had played a game consiting of field marbles in which we hucked our marbles into the field, and then attempted to land the first hit upon one another’s marbles. I have remembered the names of four out of the five marble types; as well as I think I remember the fifth, but that’s what I’ve come here to figure out. 1. a steele-an all steel marble 2. catseye-self explanitory 3. dinosaur egg (commonly known as a galaxy) 4. a candyland-(otherwise known as toothpaste if im not mistaken) the fifth one though I am worried about, (since im attempting to teach some younger gents and gals the games I used to play, I would like to have the correct term. {anyone whom has played this open field sport of marbles understands the urgency of accuacy}I thought might be called a peril?? this marble is bacially just a solid color….but transparent…see through. One color…but clear…with no design.?? is this a peril …or is there a commmon name for it? anyone.

I grew up in Brooklyn during the 60’s and 70’s. Skelly was a daily routine. My favorite caps were made with Crayola crayons (melted them right in my mothers frying pan (yikes). Once my older sister helped create a cap made with wax that looked like a target! It was the coolest cap ever.

I have one quick question: I always thought the caps went right-side up (with the wax on the ground) but my brothers and sisters think it goes upside-down with the wax facing up. Which way are you supposed to have the caps?

Does anyone remember WAR!…

Does anyone remember WAR! aka “I Decalre War On…” ? One kid with a ball was it, and he declared war on one of the other kids, each of whom represented a country. The kids stood in a circle surrounding the kid who was it. He would yell “I declare war on___”, bounce the ball as high as he could, and all the kids would run as fast, and as far away from the kid who was it, as they could. The one kid who’s country was declared war upon had to run back, catch the ball, and I think yell “freeze” That’s about all I remember. Can anyone fill in the blanks? Thanks

I just found this site and it’s great. We played skully for hours on end on 189th St.in Manhattan. In between,we’d play stickball, off the point(curbball)or Johnny ride the pony. Also,I noticed someone mentioned “slugs”.We called this “Chinese” which I found out was short for Chinese handball. How about that,a bottlecap,a broomstick, and a “spaldeen” was all the equipment we needed for fun from March to November.Who needs Playstation?
