In ENY, Linden Projects we used Pensie Pinkies mostly especially for the games like “Composition Letter A..” and “A My Name is Anna…” Spaldings bounced to high for these games but they were good for the game Spud! By the way, do they still make these balls anymore!?!

We used only Spaldeens in Glendale, Queens in the 70s for stickball & acekingoueen handball. Good thing they were hollow rubber balls so they floated in the storm sewers & we always be able to fish them out with a coat hanger bent into a ball holder shape.

I’ve been trying in vain to find my best friends from childhood. I’ve tried classmates and various Brooklyn boards over the past 10 years but nary a sole has turned up there. If any of you are out there, post a message here: Marty Leffler,Nina Schwartz,Saulie Schwartz,Bernie Keiler,Bernie Halpern,Louis Levine and Seymour Ackerman. We were friends in the early to late 40’s.

From 1962 to 1965 I hung out at the handball courts in Lincoln Terrace Park with Bruce Sherer,Marty Lampe and Billy Baron.

These guys are not in the Stickball Hall of Fame but certainly belong there. They used to play for the Little Italy team that played against the great Puerto Rican teams from Spanish Harlem and the Bronx in the late 50s and early 60s. Whoever had the opportunity to witness a game between the Italians and the Puerto Ricans on Mulberry Street on a Sunday afternoon saw stickball at its best. Both teams had outstanding hitters and fielders. And, unbelievable hustle and heart! Members from the Italian team 1. Vinny Head 2. Big Gary 3. Eddie Poop 4. Jimmy Alber 5. Tiger 6. Beansy 7. Jimmy Tips 8. Mike Fink 9. Smitty 10. Angie Bird 11. Maxie 12. Billy Bonds
