We used only Spaldeens in Glendale, Queens in the 70s for stickball & acekingoueen handball. Good thing they were hollow rubber balls so they floated in the storm sewers & we always be able to fish them out with a coat hanger bent into a ball holder shape.

I’ve been trying in vain to find my best friends from childhood. I’ve tried classmates and various Brooklyn boards over the past 10 years but nary a sole has turned up there. If any of you are out there, post a message here: Marty Leffler,Nina Schwartz,Saulie Schwartz,Bernie Keiler,Bernie Halpern,Louis Levine and Seymour Ackerman. We were friends in the early to late 40’s.

I grew up in Crown Heights. I hung out on Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue circa 1962 with my friends Paul Sodorofsky,Ira Lavinsky,Sheldon Steinberg,Marsha Goldman and Lester Morganstern. From 1962 to 1965 I hung out at the handball courts in Lincoln Terrace Park with Bruce Sherer,Marty Lampe and Billy Baron.

Just found this site and noticed that most of the posts were from Brooklyn and the Bronx. I grew up on Staten Island in the ’60’s and early 70’s in the Stapleton Houses, and spent many days playing skully in the park. We had skully boards already painted on the park grounds by the housing management.Bright yellow! In reading the postings I noticed the names of other games we used to play:Hot peas and butter, red light-green light, etc. Brought back some good memories. One game I haven’t seen was called black tar, or cau cau, I think. I was only about 8 at the time. Anyway, thanks for a great site.

I grew up in Brooklyn on Atlantic Ave., near Saratoga, (Bed Sty). I went to PS 87. I don’t remember a “Pinky” we all had Spaldeens. I remember the smell of a new one, just thinking about those games; stick ball, stoop ball, punch ball, box ball and hit the penny brings back fond memories. when we moved to Brownsville, all the kids there had Spaldeen’s too.

Lenny Milhazes, do you remember Andy’s candy store that was on Pioneer St. in Red Hook? My brother-in-laws family owned it. They lived in a house on Richard’s St. right next to Visitation Church’s Convent. Do you remember the Public Library that was there before they built the Convent. I lived in the Red Hook Projects on Centre Mall. It was great growing up in Red Hook and I never forgot all the good times I had there.
