Silly Putty and the Sunday papers … A plastic egg with a rubbery substance inside. When you flattened the “putty” onto a newspaper page, it carbon copied whatever was on the page onto itself. The joke pages were great fun with Silly Putty. Once you had your face or image on the putty, you Stre-e-e-t-c-h-e-d the putty. I stretched Nancy & Sluggo, Superman, and a few presidents. Hmmmm…. Wonder what Clinton would look like … ; )

Yes! Yes! Yes! On Miss Mary Mack, MacK, MacK. Does anyone remember the full verse to … Miss Lucy? I think today, both Mary Mack and Lucy would be “Ms”. ; )

I don’t remember another verse. There were probably lots of versions. This verse had a couple of other lines. Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack, All dressed in black, black, black, With silver buttons, buttons, buttons All down her back, back, back She asked her mother, mother, mother, For fifty cents, cents, cents, To see the elephants, elephants, elephants, Jump over the fence, fence, fence, They went so high, high, high They reached the sky, sky, sky They never came back, back, back, Till The Fourth of July, Ly, Ly.

Those colored rubber bands that you found around the street, particularly near the fruit and vegetable stores, and in the house on the floor. I don’t exactly remember the way we did that either. I grew up near China Town and definately we did some complicated leg moving through those ropes, but we also played with one strand of rubber bands and would somehow jump over a rope as high as a girls’ head.

No, no, no playmate, I cannot play with you my dollies have the flu, boo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo ain’t got no rain barrel ain’t got no cellar door, but we’ll be jolly friends forever more. I taught this to my girl scout troop a couple of months ago and they loved it!!

Somehow I was never able to master double-dutch, but I could burn up the pavement on regular rope- jumping.
