My cousin and I LOVED Cat’s Cradle, we’d play it for hours… We would sometimes make up these crazy ways to take the string, and they’d actually work… Of course, if you take it in a weird way, then the next turn gets more complicated… We got to be pretty darn good at it. I was trying to figure out how to make a Cat’s Cradle string for a kid I know. I dunno what type of string to use, though. I tried rubber bands, but it doesn’t work too well… I saw the Koosh book about the game, I think someone I knew had it, but I could never get the moves from the book…

There is a book out called Cats Cradle. It tells you all the things you can do with string, and it comes with the string. Bonnie

Oh! The famous pinky hook and simultaneous pincer-grip dip. Don’t think I was every quite able to pull that one off. I think eventually if you keep doing the moves right, you get back to the beginning. Still trying after 35 years!

Cat’s Cradle was a complicated…

Cat’s Cradle was a complicated game. A game that required its players to be coordinated and somewhat expert in the art of string. To play Cat’s Cradle, two pairs of hands and a long string were needed. (Bakery Box string was always best)The game was started with the first player looping the string around her hands to create a specific design. The second player was required to remove the string from the first players hands, in such a way, that she created a second design. Players took turns until no more designs could be created. I never figured out how to remove that last design. It had to be removed with your pinkies!
