i grew up on 1250 leland ave in the bronx, then on castle hill ave near the bingo hall. it was during the late 70’s- 93. i am now 30yrs old. i live now on long island. i always say i am so so happy i grew up in the bronx. no other place or time could replicate the good times i had with my 4 other siblings and friends. people just dont get that. all the street games, breakdancing, fourth of july, hanging out on the stoop from sun up to sun down, going to the corner store playing ms. pacman. teasing the old ladies sitting on the sidewalk in their lawn chairs as we rode our bikes passed them…..what a great group of kids from all nationalities…black, white, spanish, chinese and everything in between…we were one…we stuck up for eachother and looked out for one another…we were a real neighborhood. you dont see that anymore. i miss that. i just hope my son will have that experience, but somehow i doubt it…only in the bronx, kids!!!!

I love this sight!!! I grew up in southwest Philly and remember all these games. Anyone remember 1-2-3 Ringo? You had to grab someone and hold them while yelling “1-2-3 ringo, u my man”. Then that person helped you catch someone else. This kept going until everyone was chasing one person. The 1st person caught was it in the next round.

I grew up in Port Richmond and played all the ball games stick ball, halfies, wire ball, boxball etc. I see a lot of people looking for pimple balls, the closest I have come is website littlebitofphilly.com They sell halfies , it is better than no pimple balls.

I grew up in Lindenhurst,my first games where at the Town Hall wooden wall, a little later Firemans Park, which I called my home court. Whereabouts is Flager Beach, do you have one-wall there??

I grew up in Southwest Philly….

I grew up in Southwest Philly. We played box ball, wire ball, stick ball, step ball, etc. We also played Kick the Can, which was like Jailbreak. Somebody was “it”. Everyone else had to hide. The person who was it had a can and a jail. They had to identify the person that they saw hiding, grab the can and bang it on the street saying 1-2-3 I see Joe hiding behind Mr. Doyle’s car. If that was right, the person would go in the jail. The rest of the people had to try to sneak up the street to kick the can to free anyone in jail and hide before the person who was “it” saw you. It could take awhile before you caught everyone if you were it. What a thrill to kick the can and set everyone free. You were a hero for a minute. I also remember Hide the Belt and Buck Buck and Break the Golden Gate. I wish that I had a whole pimple ball. I have one half ball left.

Being a LINY native I grew up playing stickball with shaved tennis ball. Some how local kids would get all the fuzz off leaving only the yarn and the rubber bindings would rise above it for substanially more spin. Some guys would throw them above your head and they’d drop bellow the box. Does anyone know where to get or how to make these ball? Email me or post a suggestion if you would. Thanks, Jake Gateson

I grew up in sheepshead bay, brooklyn in the 90s where we played manhunt. We had a tree out in front of my friends house which was the base and where one of the teams counted from. there was no jail for us. if you got caught then you were out. the object was to get more than half of your team back to base. if you did then you got to hide again. if you didnt then you had to count. you got the kid when grabbed him and yelled out manhunt, manhunt 1-2-3 1-2-3 1-2-3. did anyone else play like us?

This wasn’t really a game per se but a form of keep-away. For example — “Selugee from Condoleezza!!!” and everyone would exclude her from the riotous game of keep away.It was commonly used to torture a younger or less powerful child — taking their special toy or mitt. I grew up in suburban New York in the 1950s and 60s. Anyone? Nomi

I grew up in Hell’s Kitchen. There would be a bunch of us (boys and girls)We were about 14 and 15 yrs old and I can remember that our parents would give us maybe $2.00 to go to the movies on the weekend (and not every weekend) We would go to the movies on 42nd St. Back then it was about .75 and back then 42nd St. had lots of arcades and I remember a freak show with a bearded lady and a two headed sheep. We were a roudy bunch, laughing and having a god time but all in good fun…Although times were often tuff, I remember those days with a smile!!!!
