Remember pez dispensers? They’re still around. They were such fun then! I also remember snowcones.

Wow. Fishnet stockings! I had a pair in white and a pair in black. They were the rage! And who could forget bell bottom pants, worn with platform shoes? How high were your platforms?

Wow!! Metal roller skates and roller skate keys worn on a shoelace around my neck. And box scooters, made from nailing the skates to the bottom of a board which also had a large wooden crate nailed to the top front. I’m back in my Brooklyn in the 50s. I’m young again. NOT!! These are such great memories that they make me want to share with my young daughtes. But I haven’t seen metal skates in any yard sale. And scooters gave way to skate boards. And extreme games. And now there’s inline skates. And what is the world coming to?

Ballet lessons …. Every Saturday morning, my mother would take me to the “ballet studio” where we’d darn our little pink ballet outfits, and try our best to dance to the drone of the ballet teachers voice … “and one, and two, and pirouet”…I never could stand on my toes … After the lesson was over, a group of us would go to the nearest White Castle … ; )

we use to have some steel bars on the corner of w. 174th street and nelson avenue. we use to sit on the bars at night. About 10 feet from the bars was a rather large triangle shaped intersection where during the day on weekends and in the summer we played “off the curb.” Bring back any memories for anyone? OK,, Balloon’s being the same, you would blow one up and have enough on both ends to tie to the fork and it must be able to rub against the spokes. It’s as simple as that, but you have to try it.. It takes a little bit of testing so make sure the kids are not around. You will look like an Idiot if they are.. Just make sure you get long and durable ones.. HaHa.. No pun intended.. GOOD LUCK…

I actually found a pair of skates at a flea market and my brother came up with a skate key. I am still looking for the big clamps. Wasnt it annoying when your skate came off and the strap was still around your ankle. You had to drag over to a bench or some place to sit to fix it.
