My first kiss came out of nowhere. We’d both been invited to a college party of no spectacular proportions where a bunch of our mutual friends were congregated. I liked dancing, but I must admit that I liked seeing him even more. He’s a terrific person and can always make me laugh. It was nearly night’s end when he decided that it was time for him to go home. I walked him out to his car and he offered to let me sit on the passenger’s side. Before I could comment on how I would miss him, he leaned in and kissed me. At first it made me feel excited and dazed, but now it’s just a warm, happy feeling I’ll remember always.

My Dad, Vito Giannone, I’m…

My Dad, Vito Giannone, I’m sure was one of the greatest stickball players ever in his prime, and definitely if measured by his love of the game. He lived stickball, looked forward to it all week, and played all day Sunday. It keep him going, it was when he was his happiest. We flew to Puerto Rico for the stickball championship one year and I realized what a true family all of the players were. My Dad passed away a few years ago after an illness that took his sight and his hearing . . . but through it all he still loved to clench that stickball bat which we kept by his bedside. I would love to hear any memories you have of my Dad. I miss him a lot, and the stories he told over and over about the game he loved and the people he came to regard as family. My Dad was the nicest man I ever knew, he went straight to heaven and did not have to stop along the way, and he’s already started a stickball team up there . . . thank you, ginagiannone [at] aol [dot] com

Hi, I am writing a magazine article about traditional games, and I would like to include some stories of parents and grandparents who are trying to keep them alive by teaching them to their kids and grandkids. If anyone out there would like to talk or email with me about this, I would be most grateful! Juliette

i am 30 years old and what i see with the kids these days is there is no supervision. the parents still out enjoying their “youth” to care what their kids is doing. they think “well their gonna do it anyways” i cant stop them. thats why people is all messed up. no values. the kids dont even value themselves. and to the girl who post name is “help me out”…girl you just became a sucker of reverse pyschology. that guy played you. you fell for it. you need to have more brains then that. damn. i was raised in the bronx with no parents around but i had more brains and loved myself enough not to fall for lame tricks like that..grow up!!!!!

Any one remember voting for Miss Rheingold? There were voting boxes in neighborhood grocery stores with pictures of beautiful girls. You could vote for your favorite. My friends and I would vote millions of times for a girl we wanted to win. I think I was about 10 at the time. It’s amazing how much freedom young city kids had in those days. My friends and I wandered all over (probably a 5 or 6 block radius. It was a poor neighborhood but we never knew we were poor because everyone was pretty much in the same boat. Much of what I know today I learned on those very streets.

My girlfriends and I would bring a pail of water (we’d load it up with table salt), a blanket, soda, and tan ourselves on tar beach. At night we’d bring pizza and sodas to the roof and hang out under the stars. The roof was a part of every city kid’s life. What great fun we had there.

Get an HIV test and planned parenthood classes. Visit your local health dept. and look at the people laughing, because they just dodged a bullet; and the others who are crying, because the bullet found it’s mark. Most importantly: Get information from your doctor, and counselor about how to be responsible with your new found sex life.

Back in the mid 60’s I started high school. I went to a certain prep school for about the first half of the 9th grade, being a tad rebelous I wasn’t making the kind of grades the adults thought I should. I was taken out of private school and sent to Englewood to live with relatives and attend the local high school (Dwight Morrow H.S.). There I stayed until 11th grade. In my class was one Joey Travolta, his brother John was one grade behind. It doesn’t end there, I went back to Brooklyn to finish the 11th and 12th grades. The school I attended was Sheepshead Bay H.S., two or three grades behind me was a girl named Donna Pescow. For those of you too young to remember a movie called “SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER”, they were the two stars of the movie.
