Sight is great, will be a wonderful place to go back to my youth. Looking foward to seeing the rules from the various sections of the city posted. Looking forward to finding a lot of the guys I grew up with. See a lot of them at the shore, but many have moved away, and would love to renew old relationships. Still play halfball on a regular basic, even started selling them on to other guys who are to old to climb roofs, or hang in sewers. Feel free to contact me for information Polish of Logan

how ’bout a game of “punchball” just like baseball the only difference was no pitcher and no bat. The batter would step up to homeplate and simply punch the rubber or tennis ball. “PLAY BALL!!!”

WALL BALL Throw a pimple ball against the wall at varying intensity and location. If your opponent caught it you are out. If your opponent did not catch it,it was whatever was decided where it landed, such as single, double, etc.

This has been an exciting season for the Foxboro Stickballers in Columbus, Ohio. The record for the farthest homerun was broken by one of the two sharers of the old record, Kyle Winter. Winter, who along with friend Matt Selhorst hit 249′ blasts on August 18, 2000 during a game in the Outerbanks, North Carolina. Kyle shattered his old mark on August 11, 2001 by launching a 267′ bomb into the alley in left center field at “The New Place,” the main home to Foxboro Stickball in Columbus. Stay tuned for upcoming end of the year awards including Most Valuable Player, Pitcher of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Golden Gloves, and Silver Sticks.

My name is Debbie (Acevedo) Keneipp from Bay Ridge & Park Slope, Brooklyn, I have seen many a stickball game in my neighborhoods. I am doing some research on urban stickball/handball terminology. I would like any terms that are current — that kids playing today are using. Thanks for your help.

if anyone out there played the way we did in the projects you would know the pensie pinky was the rich mans ball. I would save for that ball and wait for the sunday morning game to break out that baby. The first three or four batters would have the opportunity to knock that baby senseless. There was nothing like the feeling of a long fly ball coming off your bat from a fresh pensie pinky. Loved that ball.

I used to play stickball on 54th and 9th ave in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn in the 60’s and 70’s. First, spauldings and then Pense Pinkies. Georgie Williams was the first on the block to hit it 3 sewers. Joe Martone spent the entire time out on his stoop to make sure we didn’t hit his cadillac. Lots of fun and memories. I think back and wondered how we could keep our eyes on the ball – through trees, phone and power wires, cars (parked and moving) and still catch a small ball hit two sewers long and five stories high!

If anyone knows the specific rules to Russian or Seven Up, as I guess others call it, could you please e-mail me? My aunt taught me that game when I was a child and we spent many hours playing it, but I can’t remember all the rules or the order. Playing Russian with Aunt Margie is one of my happiest childhood memories. I’d love to teach my kids…
