Trying to find more about Kick the Can. I remember two versions. One a hide and seek type game and the other was called kicked the can running bases in my neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY. It basically was a baseball (or stickball) type game that began when the kicker (the batter) kicked the can and began running towards first. Don’t remember much after that, like how one was tagged out, etc.

Dave B from Sothwest Philly. We played all of those games and it was great. All you needed was a pimple ball and one other guy and you could play games for hours. How many times did we dive in front of the sewer intake to keep the ball from going down the hole.If it made it down the hole the smallest guy got dangled by his feet down the sewer hole.Man did it stink.Does anyone remember “chipsies”?Whoever touched the ball last before it got lost was responsible for buying a new ball and turning it over to the previous owner.

First stopped by this site some three years ago. (Check out the jpeg link in the archives section of the old board we played on in the Bronx). Nice to catch up on all the new messages, seeing people from all parts posting about the game and how they share the message of skully with the next generation. Especially enjoyed the posts by Mark D. who’s incorporating the game into a discussion on science and John W.’s last paragraph perfectly sums it up of days-gone-by. Oh, and thanks Hugh for the rule sheet!

Back in the mid 60’s I started high school. I went to a certain prep school for about the first half of the 9th grade, being a tad rebelous I wasn’t making the kind of grades the adults thought I should. I was taken out of private school and sent to Englewood to live with relatives and attend the local high school (Dwight Morrow H.S.). There I stayed until 11th grade. In my class was one Joey Travolta, his brother John was one grade behind. It doesn’t end there, I went back to Brooklyn to finish the 11th and 12th grades. The school I attended was Sheepshead Bay H.S., two or three grades behind me was a girl named Donna Pescow. For those of you too young to remember a movie called “SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER”, they were the two stars of the movie.

Well, it’s plain to see that whomever posted this title wasn’t paying much attention when they attended KUNNINGHAM JHS. If they had, they would know the correct spelling of their schools name is Cunningham JHS.
