This is in response to Celia Curtis’s email asking about Russian or 7 up. I remember the game 7 up as we played it in Michigan in the 70’s. I am looking for the rules for this particular game as well. I remember some of the levels, but not sure of the order. You play against a wall and each person takes turns bouncing the ball against the wall with different techniques used for each level. May or may not be this order. 1. Bounce against wall and catch 2. Bounce on ground and then wall and catch 3. Bounce on ground and then wall and turn around and catch 4. Bounce on ground and then wall and clapping once before you catch it 5. Throw under leg to bounce on ground and then wall and then catch Not sure of the other two levels All who are playing take turns as in: Player 1 does #1 from above then, Player 2 does #1 from above then, Player 1 does #1 and #2 then, Player 2 does # 1 and # 2 then, Player 1 does # 1, # 2 and #3 then, Player 2 does # 1, # 2 and #3 then, Player 1 does # 1, # 2, #3, #4 then, Player 2 does # 1, # 2, #3, #4 then, and so on. If a player misses. They have to stop their turn and continue their next time. This is what I remember. If anyone has the official rules please respond. My email is: mrsflame [at] yahoo [dot] com

wow this is great. I am just about to teach my youth group some of these old games we played for hours in Toronto as a kid. We played one game called Ordinary Movings by throwing the red, white and blue rubber ball up against the wall and repeating this rhyme and doing the actions before you caught the ball. Ordinary Movings (don’t move your feet) Laughings (don’t laugh) Talkings (don’t talk) One hand (catch with one hand) the other hand (catch with other hand) One foot (do the throw and catch on one foot) the other foot (do standing on the other foot) Clap at the front Clap at the back Front and back (clap at front and back) Back and front Tweedles (roll your arms over each other turning in one direction) Twidles (roll the other direction) Curtsies Bowsies Salutesies Away she goes (turn in complete circle and then catch the ball) If you got all the way through without dropping the ball then you would go through the whole thing again without Moving, then without laughing, then without talking, then with one hand etc) I also played the game with the ball in the nylon and swinging it against the wall side to side, as we stood with our backs to the wall. We said a rhyme “a sailor went to sea sea sea, to see what he could see see see, but all that he could see see see, was the bottom of the deep blue sea, sea, sea.” at the words sea and see we had to hit the ball between our legs (by lifing a leg and swinging the sock to hit the wall) I would love to have someone add some of the other wall and ball games we played.

Hey, my niece does this to me all the time I see her! She’s just turned 14. Only the above style she performs like a nursery rhyme. All I can remember (usually I am all a tingle when she starts as I am very ticklish..) is the part “comma, comma, comma, comma—Question Mark!” “big squueze—(followed by a hug)” “cool breeze” with the subsequent blow upon my neck. Goose pimples every time.
