Thank you Babs for “A Sailor Went To Sea” All of a sudden, it came into my head last night while I was trying to fall asleep. But I didn’t remember the chop, knee, toe part. Thanks again. Bonnie

Where I grew up there was this incredible playground. It was just a climbing place with sand under it. All different wooden and metal structures to climb. It was just between 2 tenement buildings. There were slides too. Then people started bringing in their dos and they finally closed it up. Kids couldn’t go in anymore. I haven’t gone by to see what it is now. Didn’t even think about it till now. But it was really a great place.

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on July 4, 1999 by Streetplay DiscussionsOctober 18, 2014

growing up in the Bronx in the 1930’s i vividly remember playing the game of this chat group. I don’t recall what we called it, but i do remember that you would try to pile on top of the weakest link so as to cave in the group. it was a lot of fun and as one has remarked, i don’t recall any injuries other than hurt pride. also, only the boys would play this, no girls were involved, as it was probably too undignified for them plus the danger.

Pensie Pinkie was the way to go. We used them to play chinese handball, KING’S, Booties up,regular handball, and stickball. When the Pensie Pinkie split in half, we still used the halfs to play stick ball. What a challenge!

My Mother-in-law just bought my daughter a set of jacks and she’s started to play. I’ve been playing again, first time in the last 20 years at least. The old games are coming back to me.

What about those Skybounce balls. They seem pretty good, even of they don’t have the brand name.

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on July 2, 1999 by Streetplay DiscussionsOctober 18, 2014

On Staten Island we would play stickball against the school yard walls. Before the game began we would draw a BIG S on the wall with chaulk. Many games of Stickball were played with only two players, the batter and the pitcher.
