Pretending you’re someone…

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on October 22, 2000 by Streetplay DiscussionsOctober 22, 2000

Pretending you’re someone else… You think that’s weird? A kid in my class in 5th or 6th grade came to school one day dressing/acting competely different. She told all the other kids that she was her twin sister. Almost everyone believed her!!! It was really weird… I guess she was a good actress!

About Chinese Jumprope- you can make one easily, all you need is a whole bunch of rubber bands. Just connect them together in a string, then tie the ends together. This can be used for cat’s cradle and those games, too… And if it breaks, all you need to do is put on a new rubber band!

Reading all the experiences is great fun. Spaldeens was the the ball of choice for those of us in Bensonhurst in the early 60’s. The grip was awesome, especially when you wanted to blast the fast ball by ’em. Made you feel like Bob Turley

I grew up playing stickball…

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on October 19, 2000 by Streetplay DiscussionsMay 9, 2019

I grew up playing stickball in the bronx. I bought my bats at the sports store right at the 242nd street station. We played a great games with simple rules: Fast Pitch (balls and strikes like baseball) Strike zone drawn on a wall – from the shortest mans knees to the tallest mans numbers and as wide as the broadest man. We played on a very narrow field. about 40 degrees between the lines. The outfield wall was about 200 feet away and about 10 feet tall. Three outs an inning. Any ground ball fielded by the pitcher before the mound (except weak hits) were outs. Any fly or line drive cought was an out. Ground ball past the pitcher was a single. Liner or po that landed in front of the outfield was a double. Off the wall was a triple. Over the wall … gone! Ghost runners would advance on every hit – they did not need to be forced. A double scored a man from second even if no one was on first. And we developed as many rule as possible to make the game as much like baseball as possible. A foul tip strike three was an out if it hit the zone. With a runner on third you could tag up on a fly to the outfield, the runner scored if the outfield did not throw a strike from wherever he cought it. A wild pitch was a pitch that hit the window on the wall with the strike zone. etc… These were the rule that we spent days playing by and making up. They made for a great way to spend summer afternoons. Thanks

In Re: “Ghosts” Ghosts,…

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on October 19, 2000 by Streetplay DiscussionsOctober 20, 2014

In Re: “Ghosts” Ghosts, as “Hide and Seek” cannot be reasonably played in a car while travelling, but “Ghosts”, as a word game can be. Basically, someone names a letter, any letter, say, for example, “G”. The next person (this can be played with as few as two people) has to add a letter to the first letter, say “h” (all letters have to, ultimately, lead to a “real word”. Adding “x” to a “G” is unacceptable unless you know of a word that starts “Gx”, I don’t). The loser of the game is the one who finally forms a word of at least 4 letters. So, the 3rd person says “o”, the next “s”, and the last, and loser, says “t”. The loser gets a “G” after his/her first loss, an “h” after the second, etc., when they have spelled “Ghost”, they are out of the game, the game continues until all but one have spelled “Ghost” There is another version of this game called “Superghosts”, in this version the letters can be added to the front as well as the back (1st “G”, 2nd “h” [gh], 3rd “a” [agh}.
