Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on October 29, 2000 by Streetplay DiscussionsNovember 14, 2014

I used to play Skully all the time, growing up in Corona, NY. I am trying to collect enough information about the game to now teach my kids how to play and even create a permanent Skully board in my suburban driveway. It was always a city game. I loved the game and intend to keep it alive by passing it on to the next generation.

I’m building a nok hockey board from a picture. Could anyone tell me a few specifics? What is the size of the goal opening and the puck? How about the block in front of the goal, the size and it’s distance from the goal? I’ve made frame and board, but any other measurements are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Whatever happened to the company that produced Mellorole (Mallorole?) cylinder shaped ice cream during the 30s and 40s? In my memory, it is the smoothest chocolate ice cream that existed.

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on October 28, 2000 by Streetplay DiscussionsMay 9, 2019

I grew up in the Brownsville-East New York areas in the 30s and 40s. Went to JHS 174 and later to Jefferson HS. As kids we played a number of games for small change including “pitching pennies” and a variation of boxball in which the object was to knock a penny or nickel into an opponents box by hitting it with a spaulding. Does anyone know of other children’s gambling games from those days or the 50s or even 60s if they still existed then?

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on October 26, 2000 by Streetplay DiscussionsOctober 26, 2000

Oh, those innocent days before caller ID!!! We lived in fear of the dreaded “traced” phone call; never fully understanding that the recipient had to have their phone set up to “trace” calls and due to how connections were made it would have required us staying on the line for over 3-4 minutes! Never long enough for our favorite queries…(to a drug store),,,”Do you have Prince Albert in a can???…Well then you had better let him out!” Or calling someone (identifying yourself as the ‘appliance repairman’)…”Is your refrigerator running?…Well, then you had better go catch it!!” Anyone else remember these or other phone jokes??? Or am I dating myself???!!!

I am from Brooklyn, NY- does anyone remember playing a game in the 50’s called skelzie? we drew a big box with little boxes in the corners, and used bottle caps filled with wax, orange peels, etc… and shot the bottle caps from box to box. If anyone remembers this game—-please let me know the rules, etc… I would like to pass this game on to my kids. thanks Sara P.

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on October 22, 2000 by Streetplay DiscussionsOctober 20, 2014

I didn’t make a lot of prank calls, I was too scared the person might have caller ID or trace the call! My cousin, however, loved to make them. One she did a few times was she would call a random number and tell the person she was from Dominos and ask if they ordered some kind of pizza… When they said no, she’d say “Well then someone must be pranking you. This is the number they gave…” heh.
