Sure I remember this… we, in Brooklyn, called it “Boys, Girls… The categories were (and we used a heel from a shoe, that we got at the shoemaker’s shop) Boys (names) Girls (names) colors, cars, actresses, actors, dogs, numbers… It was a New York game and all the girls played it.

My name is Debbie (Acevedo) Keneipp from Bay Ridge & Park Slope, Brooklyn, I have seen many a stickball game in my neighborhoods. I am doing some research on urban stickball/handball terminology. I would like any terms that are current — that kids playing today are using. Thanks for your help.

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on September 1, 2001 by Streetplay DiscussionsFebruary 16, 2019

if anyone out there played the way we did in the projects you would know the pensie pinky was the rich mans ball. I would save for that ball and wait for the sunday morning game to break out that baby. The first three or four batters would have the opportunity to knock that baby senseless. There was nothing like the feeling of a long fly ball coming off your bat from a fresh pensie pinky. Loved that ball.

I’m with John McNulty. Originally from South Jersey we played stick ball, half ball and wire ball with a pimple ball. Just like he said you could throw it home on a rope.I need to locate a pimple ball anyone have any idea where I can get my hands on one ?

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on August 31, 2001 by Streetplay DiscussionsJanuary 3, 2020

I used to play stickball on 54th and 9th ave in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn in the 60’s and 70’s. First, spauldings and then Pense Pinkies. Georgie Williams was the first on the block to hit it 3 sewers. Joe Martone spent the entire time out on his stoop to make sure we didn’t hit his cadillac. Lots of fun and memories. I think back and wondered how we could keep our eyes on the ball – through trees, phone and power wires, cars (parked and moving) and still catch a small ball hit two sewers long and five stories high!

“…And I also remember there was a short bald guy in Washington Square Park who used to try to offer young girls $50.00 to step on him with spike heels in some private place of their choosing.” -From the Chester The Molester streetplay entry.

Sounds like some kind of freaky fetish fantasy. I know that if I’d snatched the heels off of my family’s shoes for some kids game, I’d be in the family plot.
