Oh my goodness! I’m loving this message board! I grew up in Philly playing games with my sisters and friends AND was a girlscout from Brownie to Cadet. Even went to camp four years straight. (Anybody here do Camp Laughing Waters in Gilbertsville, PA from 1969 to 1972?) One song my sisters, friends and I sang: Everybody’s doin’ it, doin’ it, doin’ it Pickin’ their nose and chewin’ it, chewin’ it. Put it in a pot and whataya got? French fried boogers and a bowl of snot! (Are kids disgusting or what? ROFL!) We used to sing the “Sippin Cider Through A Straw” song in girlscout meetings. :> My mom taught us the “Found a Peanut” song. Yep, Joanne, those are the verses she taught us. :>

This might have been a just…
This might have been a just a New Jersey game. We used to play “Kick the Can” on a quiet suburban street. The neighborhood was full of kids in 1969 to about 1974. Anyway the game was played by putting a can on the manhole cover in the street, and the kid who won the previos game would kick the can as far as they could. Everyone would scatter to go run and hide while the kid who was “it” would chase the can and bring it back to home base. When the can touched home base, they yelled “freeze”. Now they had to spot all of the kids hiding, (or trying to hide). The “can” kid would say “tap tap tap on Egg Head behind the Fusco’s bush” (or some other nick name and hiding place) Egg Head (real name Bruce who got a really bad hair cut that summer) would go to “jail” and sit on the curb near home base. The can kid would have to venture away from the can furhter and further in order to find more kids hiding. If he got too far, someone can come out of hiding and “Kick the Can” off home base, which frees all those in jail, and the game starts all over. The only way to win is get everyone in jail. That’s it. Has anyone played this one?
I grew up in Sheepshead…
I grew up in Sheepshead Bay, Bklyn and we had the greatest times playing “Ringolevio”. There were 2 teams. One team would cover their eyes (of course we peeked) and the other team would run and hide. When we finished counting, we would seek out the other team. There was a “free bench” and a “caught bench”. The purpose of the team that went to hide was to get to the free bench without getting caught. If you did get caught, the free members would try to free you.

On behalf of my husband,…
On behalf of my husband, Joe Vattimo (formerly of the San Diego Knights), I am sending out this message. First and foremost, May God bless the Mercado family – our hearts reach out to them and we lift them in prayer. Joe, who most of you know as “Yo Joey V” was very ill for quite some time after his trip to New York several years ago. He is doing so much better now – Praise God! We moved to the Portland area of Oregon in July 2001 and are finally getting settled in. We would like to start up a Stickball Team here (with me working for the Fire Department here, we can generate a lot of interest!). We could use some help on how to get started, so any and all help is greatly appreciated. I personally, want to send Yo Joey V back out on the circuit! He misses all of you and spends alot of time in those “Glory Days” he spent in stickball. We look forward to hearing from everyone!
