What a trip down memory…

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on November 1, 1999 by Streetplay DiscussionsNovember 19, 2014

What a trip down memory lane…thanks gals. Does anyone remember “Stories”? There was one for every letter of the alphabet….something like this: One day just as I was about to approach my Aunt Anita’s adorable astonishing apartment house, etc.The movement was similar to that of A my name is Alice but there were multiple turns. It’s amazing how I can’t tell you what I ate yesterday but I can recall almost eevery story for every letter!

i grew up in the Bronx, walton ave. We played stoop ball in the school yard on one of the steps leading to the school which faced the schoolyard fence. single if it was not caught; double if it hit the bottom half of the fence; triple the top half and home run over the fence. if you caught the ball on a grounder, fly or off the fence without bouncing it was an out. so was missing the stoop.

I grew up in Coney Island, Luna Park houses. We had concrete ‘turtles’ in the playgrounds. Our game was called “off the turtle”. Played the same as single, double, triple.

We lived in Luna Park and my Mom would take my brother and me to the beach everyday during the summer. After spending all day at the beach,we would head right to Nathan’s for supper. She would give us $1 each and we would eat like kings and still bring her back change! Fries were .15 and .25.

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on October 28, 1999 by Streetplay DiscussionsNovember 19, 2014

On Lower East Side of Manhattan we called it Single, Double Triple. If it went over parked car on opposite side of street on fly it was home run. We used Spaldeens exclusively – they were 26 cents and the color of bubble gum.
