Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on November 9, 2003 by Streetplay DiscussionsNovember 9, 2003

I played Johnny on a Pony at PS 99 in B’klyn in the early 50’s. I was last one time & I was falling & grabbed on to the girl in front of me, we both fell backwards & she actually knocked me out!! We played boys & girls together….

Yeah Scully!I still have my bottlecaps from the 70’s!!! We used to melt crayons into the caps..which was one of my favorite parts of being a scully player. Played with my cousins in Deer Park, NY(Long Island). I’ve always thought about Scully…miss it…and always longed to play again…LOVE YOUR WEBSITE! THANKS for the memories and encouraging the reemergence of SCULLY!!

I am a grad student at San Diego State University and am making a documentary film on stickball. If anyone has or knows sources for old photographs of the game I would appreciate the help. Alex Farnsley (858) 974-1973

Streetplay Discussion Archive Posted on November 2, 2003 by Streetplay DiscussionsNovember 14, 2014

Our fires escape was on Amsterdam Avenue and 65th Street (before Lincoln Center). My girlfriend lived in the apt. beneath us. She and I had tin cans attached by a string hanging from fire escape to fire escape, so we could chat as we ate cut-up Fig Newtons and penny candy and sunned ourselves on our “terraces.” The metal structures provided a respite from the heat of the tenement buildings where not a fan, certainly no air conditioner, could be found “back in the day.”

The “pinky” ruled at Brigham Park in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn. We used it for stickball, slapball and punchball. Growing up in the 60’s Brooklyn was the best.

To the best of my recollection, the rhyme was this: Oliver Twist cannot do this touch his knee touch his toe clap his hands and over we go.
